Judgment in Proper Perspective

I was recently thinking of our country, America, and what God has blessed us with, and how, as Thomas Jefferson so eloquently wrote, that "it is our right; it is our duty" to hold our officials accountable and to promote liberty throughout the land as it says in Leviticus.  Jeremiah 22:3-4 says, "Thus saith the LORD; Execute ye judgment and righteousness, and deliver the spoiled out of the hand of the oppressor: and do no wrong, do no violence to the stranger, the fatherless, nor the widow, neither shed innocent blood in this place. For if ye do this thing indeed, then shall there enter in by the gates of this house kings sitting upon the throne of David, riding in chariots and on horses, he, and his servants, and his people."

The word execute means "to perform duty to the expected end".  In other words, not only to act on something, but also to thoroughly finish what you start.  Judgment and justice are needed not only to put fear in evildoers to stop crime, but to honor God and show that His righteousness is the only sure guarantee for liberty.  One of the many reasons you see kids act up and be disobedient, is because of lack of discipline.  They don't fear the consequence of their actions.  This is where we come in as righteous men and women to stand and recognize that God is the lawgiver, and He has the standard in which we should judge and conduct our affairs.  It’s in your hands to do what is right.
