The Meaning of Christmas

It’s so crazy how nowadays "Christmas" is equated with Santa Claus instead of Jesus Christ.  You know, the big fat guy with the rosy cheeks and the red suit, climbing down chimneys, and knowing how good your son or daughter really is.  I thought that Christmas was about Christ. What is the 25th of December?   Last time I checked it wasn't "Clausmas".  The whole point of this date was to remind the world and us that God gave us a gift that were not worthy to receive.  Matthew 1:21; “And thou shalt call his name Jesus, for he shall save his people from their sins.”

Leonard Ravenhill once said, "Jesus Christ didn't come to make bad men good, but to make dead men live". There is no way to receive this gift by how good you are, or how bad you are.  Romans 3:10 says, "There is none righteous, no, not one", and Isaiah 64:6 says, "…all our righteousness are as filthy rags", which is the reason and importance of Christ, who makes us good. When we receive Christ, we change to be more like Him and He gives us the power to do so.  When is the last time you gave a gift, especially to a kid, and they appreciated it so much, that they now willingly obey you at all costs?  Most of the time when people get gifts, they get mad because it wasn't the right thing or the brand name wasn't right. It’s based on covetousness, not thankfulness.

A gift is given even when you don't deserve it; that is why it’s a gift.  You can't earn it, and if you could, it would be called a "wage".  I'm not saying buying presents is bad and not to celebrate Christmas. The point is, where is the heart?  Ask yourself, be honest and come to the One who was given for you to be cleansed of that and to renew your mind to be as His.
