Who do you submit to?

“Gird thy sword (truth) upon thy thigh, O most mighty (king/president), with thy glory and thy majesty. And in thy majesty ride prosperously because of truth and meekness and righteousness; and thy right hand shall teach thee terrible things” (Psalm 45:3-4, parentheses added).

I look at America’s current situation, and when all you hear from politicians is "jobs, economy, money, taxes, etc.", it comes down to one root cause: if We the People were moral, would we allow others to steal, lie, and cheat just to get ahead of one another?  George Washington once stated, "Religion and morality are the essential pillars of a civil society." The question that needs to be asked is, where is the civility in this country? Where is the morality?

See, true LOVE gives; it doesn’t take.  Paul said in Romans 13:8-10:

Owe no man any thing, but to love one another: for he that loveth another hath fulfilled the law. FOR THIS, Thou shalt not commit adultery, Thou shalt not kill, Thou shalt not steal, Thou shalt not bear false witness, Thou shalt not covet; and if there be any other commandment, it is briefly comprehended in this saying, namely, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself. Love worketh no ill to his neighbour: therefore love is the fulfilling of the law.

Can a nation truly walk this way when the leadership is corrupt?

In the same chapter, Paul explains that every soul should be "subject to the higher powers", and whosoever resisteth, resisteth the ordinance of God.  Romans 13:4 shows us that a leader is not a terror to "good works, but to evil".  So can I submit to an authority that is constantly waging war on not only the foundation and the fabric of our society (Mosaic Law), but also on its people by using them and their labors for unconstitutional and illegal agendas?  Thomas Jefferson once stated, "To compel a man to furnish funds for the propagation of ideas he disbelieves and abhors is sinful and tyrannical.”  What a truth this is.  And how far we have come as a nation to turn from the very basis in which we were founded.

My point here is in Psalm 45, the king was prosperous only when he submitted to truth, meekness (to be teachable), and righteousness.  Until we get back to those simple virtues, we will continue to see a lack of prosperity.  How foolish for people to think that we as humans can fix what God has established spiritually through carnal means.  We strayed from Him who created all things by His mercy, and we through our corrupt nature will make things right?  Impossible!  That is the reason that our Founders relied heavily on the "Creator", "Father of Lights", the eternal "Lawgiver" to guide us because they saw what a corrupt king could do to a people.  But to be candid, we heap it on ourselves because we have strayed. Read Deuteronomy 28 and Leviticus 26.  We can’t afford to be foolish anymore, and now is the time to turn from our sins (breaking God’s law, 1 John 3:4) as a nation and to seek the face of Him who guided David to be a righteous king for His people. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
