Answering 1280 “The Patriot” Questions

Since 2003, we have been a part of Salem Communications, from AM 980 KKMS to AM 1280 The Patriot. We have friends at the Patriot all the way to the top and have a great respect and gratitude for these individuals.

Up until the economy started to “go south” on us, we were also in such markets with Salem in Washington, D.C., Chicago, Minneapolis and others. It just got to the point where we could no longer afford Salem’s satellite or outreach outlets named above. We could only afford the Minnesota station.

Fortunately, about 3 months ago, Genesis Communication Network picked us up free of charge. Since then we have gone nationally, coast to coast, with many outlets picking us up on their budget, and we have grown exponentially. We are very thankful for the opportunities.

As most of you well know that on the release of our documentary “My War” we have had 12 premieres, with many of them selling out. The Patriot in Minnesota could no longer stay our course; we were outgrowing them and the ministry knew it, as did our listeners.

Three weeks before The Sons of Liberty had any issues with Salem’s representation we were already in process of jumping on to a more effective outlet with no disrespect to Salem.

What Happened?

The leaving of Salem Communications had nothing to do with my prayer at the Capitol in the state of Minnesota. The prayer took place a week after.

The issues were when I talked about Obama’s correlation with Osama on one of my shows. What’s interesting about this is that throughout the country everyone was saying Obama when they should have said Osama, and Osama where they should have said Obama. Radio personalities were mocking this situation across the country.

After the airing of that particular show I was called and told to give Obama credit for the killing of Osama, which my show had nothing to do with. I explained to this individual “Am I to respect those who dishonor our veterans and the price they paid (they ratified the Constitution of the United states with their lives), while the one that you want me to give credit to is disrespecting the oath in which he swore to uphold (in which the veterans died to uphold)?” I said, “No way.”

We even took the time to do a test run on that piece. We sent out an email blast to our listeners, asking for their feedback, and got nothing but positive responses. And the people had enough common sense to hear the point that I was making.

We are not to teach our posterity to respect them that disrespect their oath and their office. Isn’t that what America is complaining about today? Yes it is! We are commanded to do the opposite. And I did.

Another topic exclusively brought up by Salem’s representative was myself and Jake talking “urban.” He was insinuating that we were mocking black folks. Nothing could be further from the truth. First of all, I was raised up a good portion of my life in North Minneapolis, I have been a drummer for a rock rap band, with a black guitar player and a Hispanic singer. Enough said. This was explained to Salem’s representative all to no avail.

So in conclusion, I thank Salem Communications for all the opportunities, and all the things that we have done together. I wish every one of them the best for their future.

God Bless.
